Johann Christian von Boineburg came from an influential Hessian family of politicians and made an impressive career at the Court of the Elector of Mainz. In 1653, he became a Catholic, a decision which caused his temporary arrest in 1664. Von Boineburg cultivated the acquaintance of Leibniz in 1668 and together they planned strategies to change European politics. He also assigned him to make a catalogue of his vast library (completed in 1671). See: Paasch, 2003. Von Boineburg owned Leibniz’s copy of TTP in which he jotted notes on (upcoming) refutations of the treatise. For a while, Von Boineburg fanatically kept track of any news reporting about (upcoming) refutations of Spinoza, and corresponded extensively on that issue. See Palumbo, 1990.
