Gerard van der Nypoort read law in Leiden (1616) and took out his doctoral degree in Law in 1622. He was ‘raad ordinaris’ (ordinary councillor), and one of the Geëligeerden (1671–7) in the States of Utrecht (cf. Lijste, 1723, p. 11; Quint Ondaatje, 1784, Annex E, pp. 167 and 174).
