Joost van de Ven was admitted to the profession in 1636. On 15 January 1637, Michael, together with several other Portuguese merchants, signs an affidavit before notary Van de Ven. That notarial deed, signed at the latter’s office at the Dam Square most probably, concerns an accusation that the captain of the vessel de Fonteyn (‘The Fountain’) had stored in an Amsterdam warehouse several goods and salt from Moroccan Salé without following proper procedures. Joost van de Ven also worked as a curator. See: Bosma, 1998, p. 120, no. 556.
